Nico Marques is an architectural photographer based in Los Angeles and Porto, Portugal. He has an easy-going and friendly, yet highly focused approach to capturing images. This is no doubt a result of his international training in architecture and photography. His upbringing on a Portuguese vineyard surely plays a part here too. It certainly does when it comes to wine and food appreciation. After years of experience working as a designer at boutique architecture firms in California and Germany, Nico changes gears and combining his passion for photography and architecture into one becomes obvious one day. So does stepping away from his desk to help promote his friends’ and colleagues’ work via his architectural photography. Working as an architectural photographer, he has been capturing projects and their typical inhabitants in the best light possible ever since, and this journey as documentarian storyteller has now been a source of excitement for over a decade.
Nico was invited to exhibit his work at the Venice Biennale in 2018 and 2020, and his photographs have been published in books and magazines worldwide, including in Architectural Review, California Homes, Dwell and Trends. Current projects also include two books, the art of pruning vines, and playing tennis and cycling with his son.
